Actress Rita Moreno and Vocalist Marni Nixon
Moreno won an Oscar for her role as Anita in West Side Story and has been in dozens of films and TV shows. Marni Nixon is the singing voice of Maria (played by Natalie Wood) in West Side Story. She also did voiceovers for Deborah Kerr in An Affair to Remember and Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady. More recently, she did voiceover work for the animated film Mulan. Musician and actor Steve Van Zandt
Musician and actor Steve Van Zandt. He is the guitarist for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. He's also recorded solo and has produced a number of records for other bands. He plays hitman Silvio Dante in the hit HBO series The Sopranos. His syndicated radio show, Hard Rock Cafe Presents Little Steven's Underground Garage plays Sunday nights on a number of classic rock stations across the United States. This interview first aired June 27, 2002.
1941 'Slam Poetry'
Before he was dean at the Columbia University School of Journalism, before his legendary collaboration with Edward R. Murrow, before he produced CBS' "See It Now," Fred Friendly gave a radio dedication speech for the opening of the Quonset Naval Air Station in Rhode Island--at age 25. An NPR listener found it on a 78 rpm record at a flea market.

Writer Jon Krakauer
Krakauer is the author of the book Into Thin Air, about the disastrous 1996 Mount Everest climb in which eight climbers were killed. His new book, Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith, is about Mormon fundamentalism and the story of the two Lafferty brothers who murdered a woman and her infant daughter because they say that they had received a revelation from God to do so. Krakauer reports there are some 40,000 Mormon fundamentalists in the American West, Canada and Mexico. The Mormon Church does not recognize fundamentalists as part of their faith.
