KLCC Awards from SPJ

2019

KLCC reporter Brian Bull and host Barbara Dellenback were honored for their work at the 2019 Oregon Territory SPJ awards ceremony in Portland.

Bull was deemed a Winner in the General News – Audio Reporting category for his January 2019 feature about how the city of Corvallis is dealing with an increasing homeless population.

Bull’s three-part series on the 20th anniversary of the Thurston High School shooting was also runner up in the Audio News Series category. The segments revisited the events of May 20-21, 1998 and how survivors are coping with the aftermath.

Remembering Thurston Part 1:  20 Years Later, Wounds and Questions Still Linger
Remembering Thurston Part 2:  Survivors Cope, Prosper and Reflect
Remembering Thurston Part 3:  A Look at Kip Kinkel's Life Behind Prison Walls

Dellenback took a runner-up win for Sports Audio Reporting for her interview with Bob Welch, former associate editor for the Register-Guard.  They discussed Welch’s book on Dick Fosbury and his innovative one-man high jump technique that revolutionized the event.
