Oregon Softball's National Championship Hunt Ends In Oklahoma

Jes Burns

The University of Oregon softball team ended their run at a National Championship on Sunday.  It was an up and down weekend for the Ducks at the women’s College World Series in Oklahoma.  Oregon won their first game against Florida State, then dropped their second to Florida.  That loss sent them to the loser’s bracket, where they faced and defeated last year’s national champion, the University of Oklahoma.  But Oregon wasn’t able to pull out a win against Alabama, and was knocked out of the tournament.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Mike White lauded his team for performing much better than their pre-season ranking indicated. The Ducks won the PAC-12 title for the second year in a row.

White:  “To win that back-to-back: tremendous.  To get back to the college world series: tremendous.  From where people were picking us and what we did.  This is a very talented team, and I’m so excited because I know next year we have four more kids coming in that’ll be able to do the job for us.  They’ll never replace these guys, we can’t do that.  But we’re ready to build on what we’ve achieved so far.”

It has been a historic year for the U of O softball program.  They achieved a #1 ranking for first time in school history and they won 56 games, a school record.
