The Pac-12 champion and third-ranked University of Oregon Women’s basketball team closed out their regular season with a win over Washington at home in front of a sold out Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday.
The Ducks (28-2, 17-1 Pac-12) beat the Huskies with a final score of 92-56. It was their 16th straight victory.
After the game, Seniors Sabrina Ionescu, Ruthy Hebard, and Minyon Moore, were honored in a celebratory, party-like ceremony. Junior Satou Sabally was also recognized on Senior Day since she has declared for the WNBA draft. All four players left the game with 4:27 remaining to a loud ovation.
During the ceremony, Coach Kelly Graves addressed the sellout crowd. “I know we’re honoring these seniors tonight- and just think back four years. There was maybe enough to fill three sections, and now look at this. So thanks to all of you,” he said to loud applause.
Ionescu also took the opportunity to thank the fans and said “I want to say thank you- you guys inspire me to be a better person and a better basketball player, but we still got some stuff left to achieve, so stay tuned everybody.”
The Ducks head to Las Vegas for the Pac-12 Tournament where they have a first round bye. On Friday, they’ll face the winner of Thursday’s Utah/ Washington game. In the 2019 tournament Oregon lost to Stanford in the final game. Their only Pac-12 Tournament title came in 2018.
Game Re-Cap:
The Ducks were off and running right from the start with a 7-0 run, forcing a quick timeout from the Huskies. After the time-out, Washington made it a game, and at the end of the first quarter, the Ducks were barely up, 19-18. But that was the closest the Huskies would get. The Ducks went on a 17-0 run to end the second and were up 46-24 at the half.
Oregon continued to dominate for the remainder of the game, leading by 34 after the third.
Ionescu earned her 18th double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 assists. Hebard led the scoring for the Ducks with 24 points and 7 rebounds, while Sabally added 20. Reserve player Taylor Chavez had 14 points. Moore had two of the Ducks’ 14 steals and contributed 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
