July Fourth Is The Most Dangerous Time To Travel For Oregon Drivers
July 4 is the deadliest holiday for Oregon drivers, according to a release from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
From 2013 to 2017 39 people died from independence day travel, and 62 percent of these crashes involved alcohol.
Shelley Snow from ODOT says that the statewide “No Excuses” campaign is emphasizing attentive driving over the holiday:
“There's lots of traffic out on the road -- it's summertime, people are on vacation, kids are out of school. So the traffic volumes are higher. All that really means is that it's more important than ever before to pay attention to the task at hand when you’re driving.”
ODOT is running another campaign called “A crash is no accident. Your decisions have consequences.” This message advocates personal responsibility in ensuring distraction-free driving.
