People in need of respite from heat can get a free ride to a cooling center on any LTD bus route. On July 30 and 31st starting at 1 p.m. riders can tell drivers they’re traveling to a cooling center and their fee will be waived.

Lane Transit District spokesperson pat walsh says it’s part of their health first initiative to get people where they need to go.

"LTD works with [Lane County] both when it's very hot out and when it's also very cold in order to help make sure that people who need a place to go can do so without transportation being a barrier," he said.

Walsh adds riders are required to wear a mask. A list of cooling centers can be found here.
