Dr. Victoria Sweet, author of God’s Hotel: A Doctor, a Hospital, and a Pilgrimage to the Heart of Medicine, spent twenty years in practice at the last almshouse in the country. She speaks with Eric Alan about the differences between an almshouse and a hospital, and the lessons from “slow medicine” relevant to the modern healthcare system.
