A World Worth Looking at: Photography at Oregon Online Show and Auction 2020
This is Sandy Brown Jensen, and you’re listening to Viz City, KLCC’s arts review program.
As of this week, Oregon public spaces are cautiously opening up. People are putting their heads cautiously out their doors, still not trusting the quarantine is over, and maybe it is, and maybe it isn’t.
But in spite of the best efforts of all these millions of housebound folks, the internet hasn’t broken, so your computer is still the best and safest place to see art. Today, I’d like to direct your attention to our own local Photography at Oregon online show and auction.
I’ll tell you what caught my eye, but only you know what you love. I am an unabashed lover of mystical landscapes, so I put my bid on Rich Bergeman’s black and white image of a path curving along the ecotone between meadow and forest, disappearing into a luminous spot of distant light.
I call these beckoning road images “The Dusky Path of a Dream,” and I’m just crazy about them.
They call forth my gypsy soul and make my feet want to wander. You love that, too? Feel free to outbid me! Bidding war? Yes, please!
I’ve talked about Sandi O’Brien’s glowing infrared landscapes before, and she has two here. Even with the word “red” in it, these are black and white landscapes; my eye is drawn particularly to an epically twisted tree she captured with dramatic light at Arches National Park.
Roseanne Olson is here, too, also known as a master of beautiful lighting. This image of a woman’s graceful torso rising out of a blue pool shows how she makes the ordinary extraordinary.
