KLCC wins national Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast

KLCC wins 2026 National Murrow Award for Best Newscast

KLCC has won a national Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast in the Small Market Radio category.

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) announced the 2026 national winners this month. KLCC was recognized for a newscast from April 9, 2025, delivered by Morning Edition host Love Cross.

The award-winning newscast brought listeners a mix of national, regional and local stories, including reporting from KLCC’s Tiffany Eckert on efforts to privatize the U.S. Postal Service and how community members were responding.

The newscast also covered:

  • The impact of the Trump administration’s proposed tariffs on local businesses
  • The cancellation of Madras’ Latino Fest because of safety concerns surrounding Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the area
  • An upcoming Eugene town hall hosted by Oregon State Sen. James Manning
  • The Eugene Emeralds’ home opener against the Tri-City Dust Devils

“This award reflects the work that goes into our mission to keep our community informed,” said KLCC News Director Chris Lehman. “I’m happy to see our team’s efforts honored in this way.”

The national Murrow award is the latest recognition for KLCC’s newsroom. Earlier this year, KLCC received three 2026 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards: Overall Excellence, Best Newscast and Excellence in Writing. In June, the news team received five awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, Region 10.

“Love is one of those unique talents who can juggle five things at once—and still sound like she’s speaking to just one listener,” said KLCC General Manager Jim Rondeau. “Even on days when deadlines and breaking news are working against her, she sets the standard for warmth, professionalism and credibility.”

Love Cross, KLCC’s Morning Edition host, has earned numerous honors for her newscasting, including regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for Best Newscast and Excellence in Sound, as well as national first-place awards from the Public Media Journalists Association. In 2026, Cross delivered the KLCC newscast that won the national Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast.

Love Cross has received multiple honors and recognition for newscasting, including regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and first-place awards from the Public Media Journalists Association.

“I am grateful to have the privilege of delivering the quality work of the KLCC News team to our listeners each weekday morning,” said Cross.

The Edward R. Murrow Awards, presented by RTDNA, are among the most prestigious honors in broadcast and digital journalism. The 2026 national winners will be honored October 12 at the Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala in New York City.

Congratulations to Love Cross, Tiffany Eckert and the entire KLCC newsroom!
