Art Event - ROOTED IN INK: Portraits of the Underbrush
My work is a unique exploration into the delicate undergrowth of nature, seeking to uncover the beauty that often goes unnoticed in the fine, intimate details of the everyday flora beneath our feet. In these pieces, I aim to reveal the hidden character and personality of small plant subjects, capturing their essence in ways that honor their quiet presence.
Through the process of eco-printing, I employ natural materials—oak gall tannins, iron compounds, and walnut bark—using techniques inspired by medieval ink-making traditions. Each plant specimen produces a single final print, becoming a one-of-a-kind portrait of nature, where the organic elements interact with the paper, leaving behind traces of their history, texture, and vibrancy. This process allows me to create visual narratives that speak to the intricate and often overlooked life found within the underbrush, offering a new perspective on the flora we encounter daily. Each print is as singular and unique as the original plant that created it.
By blending the ancient and the contemporary, I invite the viewer to slow down and appreciate the intricate, fleeting beauty that resides just beneath the surface of the world around us.
