Eugene Gay Men's Chorus Presents: Legacies
The Eugene Gay Men’s Chorus (EGMC) and the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus (PGMC) take the stage together in combined voices for Legacies. This moving program honors the resilience, courage, and enduring voices of the LGBTQ+ community through music rooted in lived experience and collective memory. With 200 singers, accompanied by piano and string quartet, this is a night you won’t forget.
Anchored by selections celebrating the 30th anniversary of Robert Seeley’s groundbreaking work “Naked Man,” Legacies reflects on the stories that have shaped generations—from the fight for visibility and justice, to the grief and strength forged during the AIDS crisis, to the ongoing journey toward equality, dignity, and affirmation.
“Collaborating on Legacies is deeply meaningful for our singers,” said Evan Miles, Founding Artistic Director of EGMC. “This program reflects experiences that are personal, collective, and still unfolding. Bringing our choruses together allows us to amplify these stories and honor the generations who sang, marched, loved, and fought before us.”
“Legacies is about honoring the voices that came before us and recognizing the responsibility we carry as singers today,” said Dr. Braeden Ayres, Artistic Director and Conductor of PGMC. “This music reminds us that our history lives not only in archives and memories, but in our bodies and voices. Singing these stories together is both an act of remembrance and a declaration that our community continues to endure, create, and thrive.”
More than a concert, Legacies is a living archive—an artistic act of remembrance that celebrates the power of song to carry history forward. The collaboration between PGMC and EGMC brings added depth and resonance, uniting two ensembles in a shared exploration of identity, resilience, and community.
Together, the choruses invite audiences into a powerful musical journey inspired by the LGBTQ+ community’s past, present, and future—one that affirms the enduring strength of shared voices raised in song.
