Petrushka: An AI Ballet

Petrushka: An AI Ballet

Petrushka: An AI Ballet reimagines the famous ballet set to music by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky in a futuristic world aboard a space station where human connection has faded and artificial beings carry out daily life. When Petrushka, an artificial intelligence, begins to experience emotions like love, jealousy, and longing, the boundaries between machine and human begin to blur.

Choreographed by Eugene Ballet Associate Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer Suzanne Haag, the production blends striking multi-media visuals, powerful storytelling, and bold choreography. Orchestra Next performs Stravinsky’s dramatic score live.
The program also features Dark Meadow Suite by modern dance pioneer Martha Graham, a poetic work exploring life’s journey and the human desire for connection.

Together, these two works form a compelling double bill that bridges past and future, technology and humanity, innovation and tradition.
Whether you are a lifelong dance lover, a fan of live orchestral music, or simply curious about where art and artificial intelligence intersect, this performance offers something unexpected and quite enjoyable. Come explore the question “What does it mean to be human?”
