Ro Lundberg & Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble
Ro Lundberg & Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble
We are delighted to announce that Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble will be opening for and performing with the Chicago-based bassist Ro Lundberg. On March 14th Lundberg will lead EDME through their composition/performance by-passing-upon. Both EDME and Lundberg will also perform individual sets. This sound art event will take place at the Caffee Pacori (255 Wallis St STE 3) from 2:00pm-4:00pm. EDME shows are always NOTAFLOF, though a $15-$25 donation is suggested for those who can afford it.
Ro(b)//ert Lundberg makes sound and image, thinks about and drinks water. Now based in Chicago, they have performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe at festivals such as Big Ears and CURRENTS New Media. They perform solo and with outfits ranging from improvising ensembles to art rock band JOBS. Their multimedia artistic work often focuses on the interaction of human infrastructure and the spaces it inhabits. They earned a BFA in jazz performance from The New School (New York) and graduate degrees in law and environmental art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Their new album and book by-passing-upon is out now.
Lundberg will be performing by-passing-upon with EDME. Built from a palette of double bass, chamber ensemble, synthesizer, masking tape, and water-filled vessels, by-passing-upon merges sonorous ambient tones with driving rhythms and flowing, bubbling patterns. Prompted by a score both graphic and notated, as well as stage props including multi-colored tape, ladders, a kettle, and beach balls, Lundberg and EDME will realize a work existing in the fluid space between pre-composed and improvised music.
EDME will be performing Swell Piece by James Tenney; Stories From The Unhoused: Hardship by JP Lempke; Score for Memories And The Weather In Montenegro by Michele St. Michel; and Lichen by Ellie Jakes. For this show their instrumentation will be Viola, Cello, Guitar, Trombone, Piano, Double Bass, Electronics, & Modular Synth.
EDME is a chamber ensemble focused on promoting under-recognized composers and
contemporary composition practices. They endeavour to hear and perform the world in all its myriad richness, and in so doing, encourage others to hear it as a place of wonder and curiosity; beauty and endless creativity. They work to bring global experimentation to Eugene, and to take Eugenuine explorations to the world.
