Attorney Says Pete Seda Has Been Vindicated

Rachael McDonald

This week the US Attorney for Oregon announced a plea agreement with the former Ashland-based Islamic charity Al Haramain and its former head Pete Seda. Seda pleaded guilty to tax fraud. In return the government dropped all criminal charges against him. Seda had been convicted in 2010 on charges of funneling 150 thousand dollars to Chechen rebels. A federal appeals court last summer overturned that conviction. KLCC's Rachael McDonald spoke with Seda's attorney, Steven Wax who is with the Public Defender's office in Portland.

Rachael McDonald is KLCC’s host for All Things Considered on weekday afternoons. She also is the editor of the KLCC Extra, the daily digital newspaper. Rachael has a BA in English from the University of Oregon. She started out in public radio as a newsroom volunteer at KLCC in 2000.
