U.S. Supreme Court Suspends Youth Climate Case Temporarily

The U.S. Supreme Court temporarily suspended a youth-led climate change case against the federal government Friday. The case is scheduled to go to trial at the end of this month.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts paused the case until the 21 youth plaintiffs respond to objections filed by the Department of Justice this week.
Those plaintiffs are arguing that the federal government hasn’t done enough to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
DOJ attorneys have asked the court to dismiss the case. They say the complaint is overly broad, and that climate policy shouldn’t be decided by the judicial system.
Attorneys for the youths say they will respond to the Supreme Court by Wednesday, and expect the case to move forward.
