UPDATE: 10:30 A.M. Wildfire Near Corvallis Forces Evacuations For 200 Residents

@FOX12Oregon via twitter

10:25 AM UPDATE:

Firefighters have the fire 70% contained at 3:00 a.m., and the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) used a bulldozer to fully contain the fire by 5:00 a.m.

The fire is estimated to have sporadically burned over 150 acres of public open space. Corvallis and ODF fire crews are now engaged in mop up operations and will be extinguishing numerous hot spots throughout the day. Fire crews from Adair Village, Albany, Alsea, Halsey, Lebanon, Junction City, Monroe, Philomath, Polk County, Tangent, and the Oregon Department of Forestry assisted the Corvallis Fire Department in stopping the progression of the fire protecting lives and millions of dollars of private and public property.

There were no civilian or fire service injuries reported from the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and anyone having any information regarding the incident is encouraged to call either the Corvallis Police Department at (541) 766-6924 or Fire Department at (541) 766-6903.

An uncontrolled wildfire burning north of Corvallis caused mandatory evacuations for more than 200 homes in the area Friday night.

As of 1:30 am this morning, all residents east of NW 29th St. to NW Century Dr. and north of NW Walnut Blvd. to NW Crescent Valley Dr. are on level 2 evacuation, meaning residents can return to their homes, but must remain ready to leave at a moment's notice.

The evacuation site at the Benton County Fair Grounds has been shut down, but may be re-activated should the need arise.

Firefighters have established a line around approximately 70% of the fire, but are not considering it contained at this time.  The fire remains about 100 acres in size. There is not an estimate for when the fire will be contained.

At this time there no known structures involved in the fire, however there have been instances of damage to fences and decks surrounding homes.
