Crews Push On Against Middle Fork Complex; Firefighter Death Under Investigation

Inciweb

Near Oakridge, fire crews are mopping up one incident, and working to rein in a couple others, as a dozen-wildfire suppression operation called the Middle Fork Complex continues.

Scott Owen is with Northwest Incident Management Team 13. He said overall, the complex is currently at 16,030 acres, with 10% containment.  He added the Kwis Fire is largely contained, with crews putting out hot spots.

”As far as the Gales and Nine-Mile Fire, we’re working on burning operations on the north side of that fire. It’s an area that is steep, and the terrain’s hard to get in there. So we’re lighting some fire in there to bring the line of the fire up to an area we can hold and control.”

About 600 personnel are on scene.  One firefighter at the Middle Fork Complex died in an accident Monday.  The Lane County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies are investigating.
