Monday afternoon, Eugene Springfield Fire closed off the 300 block of Main Street in Springfield for several hours when someone released hydrogen sulfide gas from their vehicle.

People were asked to remain indoors to avoid the gas during the incident.

A hazardous materials team was able to clean up the area and the street was reopened after being closed for several hours.

LaneAlert sent out an emergency message to residents' cell phones.
