Among the topics touched on by Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis tonight in her State of the City Address, was housing.
Vinis said she and the city committed to more shelter options for the homeless, including the expansion of the Dusk to Dawn and Rest Stop programs.
Vinis also said they championed the “missing middle”, by exploring more affordable housing options to help Baby Boomers who want to downsize, and millennials who want to become home owners.
“The University of Oregon has stepped forward as a key partner and will host a “Missing Middle” forum in February to identify a few key strategies that could promote more construction of this housing," said Vinis.
"(The Eugene City) Council will follow with a work session, and we will begin to transition from talking to doing.
"Please be a part of this!”
Before the event, several protesters gathered outside the Hult Center, holding signs calling for more shelters. One man’s sign read, “Legalize Survival”.
