Uber And Lyft Ready To Roll In Eugene / Springfield

Ride sharing services Lyft and Uber finally have a green light in Eugene and Springfield. Late last week, both companies applied for licenses. Lyft’s was granted Tuesday, with Uber set to launch tomorrow (Thursday).

After months of negotiations, the Eugene City Council adopted relaxed insurance and driver requirements in July. Now that ride-hailing is allowed, there’s a scramble to get drivers cleared to work

[ambi: “I’m going to need your proof of insurance and your driver’s license.”]

The City of Eugene has stations set up in the Atrium building downtown to process their required paperwork. Lindsay Selser is with the city’s Planning and Development department:

Selser:  “We’re working as fast as we can to get people certified. So I think it’s going to be a steady stream. We’re just going to keep plugging away.”

Selser says in addition to the companies’ vehicle and driver requirements, the city has a $65 application and conducts its own criminal background checks through the Eugene Police Department.
