Oregon’s minimum wage is set to increase on July 1. How much it goes up depends on where you work.
People who earn minimum wage in half of Oregon’s counties will get a 75 cent-per-hour increase. That includes Lane, Linn, Benton, Lincoln and Deschutes Counties, where the base wage will rise to $12 per hour.
Workers in so-called “non-urban” counties, including Douglas County, will get a 50 cent per hour increase, making the new minimum wage $11.50 per hour.
The increases are spelled out in a bill approved by Oregon lawmakers in 2016, which increases the minimum wage each July 1st until 2023, when the wage will once again be indexed to inflation.
According to the Oregon Employment Department, roughly seven percent of all jobs in Oregon pay the minimum wage, although that statistic is based on data from last year, before the coronavirus pandemic drove unemployment to record levels.
