Lane County Farmers Market Temporarily Moved To 5th Avenue

Lane County Farmers Market

For the first time in decades, the Lane County Farmers Market will temporarily move to a new location in Eugene. The change comes as the city plans to begin work on its town square project in May.

In the interim, the market will open April 3 on 5th Avenue between High Street and Oak street. Marketing coordinator Meghan Verberkmoes said the Farmers Market has been at the same spot since the 70s.

The challenging part of temporarily relocating, she said, has been getting the word out, but one perk is there's more space for social distancing.

"We’re also really thankful that we have a location where our entire membership can vend," she said, "We looked at a lot of different possibilities around Eugene for this interim site and there wasn’t anywhere else where all of our vendors that would want to vend would have enough space to do that.”

Verberkmoes adds they also have the opportunity to reach new audiences. But, the change means visitors won’t be able to shop at both the Farmers Market and the Saturday Market at the same location.

"We know that so much of our community in Eugene is really accustomed to being able to visit both [markets] while operating side-by-side...we want to really encourage everyone to still go to both, there's a three block distance between them now, but hopefully that won't be too much," she said.
