Commission Dismisses Misconduct Allegations Against Former Superintendent

Cottage Grove Sentinel

Oregon’s licensing agency for educators has dismissed misconduct allegations against the former superintendent of the South Lane School District.

The Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission has found insufficient cause to charge Krista Parent with misconduct after a complaint claimed she had a romantic relationship with an employee.

Parent confirmed the relationship when the complaint was filed last year, but denied that any inappropriate behavior had occurred at work.

The Cottage Grove district does not have policies that prohibit personal relationships between supervisors and employees. Commission rules also do not address such relationships.

Parent was removed as superintendent in January and agreed to retire this June.

Larry Sullivan, a longtime school district leader, will serve as superintendent for the next school year. He was unanimously picked by the South Lane School Board to serve in the position. He starts on July 1st.

Born and raised in Eugene, Anni started at KLCC in 2000 as a reporter and co-host of Northwest Passage. After graduating from the University of Oregon, Anni moved to New York City. She worked in education for several years before returning to her true love, journalism. Anni co-founded and co-hosted Dailysonic, a narrative-based news podcast. She interned at WNYC's On The Media, then becoming WNYC's assistant producer of Morning Edition.
