The University of Oregon’s Board of Trustees has unanimously voted Friday to name the new Black Cultural Center after Lyllye Reynolds-Parker. The center is set to open in October.
Reynolds-Parker was born in Eugene in 1946, and graduated from the UO in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She also served as a student advisor at the university.
The newly-named Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center will have a grand opening next month and UO spokesperson, Kay Jarvis told KLCC that Reynolds-Parker is expected to attended.
The $3 million facility was one of the demands made by the Black Student Task Force following a demonstration in 2016.
