3/12/2020 UPDATE: Springfield, Bethel and South Lane School districts have joined the Eugene 4J district in canceling or postponing non-essential gatherings and activities.
Eugene School District 4J says it will begin suspending events that bring large groups of students, adults and community members together.
At this time, there are no COVID-19 cases identified in 4J or in Lane County.
The suspension began immediately and remains in effect for 30 days. It includes all school-based assemblies and events, off-campus field trips, and out-of-state travel.
4J says that with regard to major athletic and academic contests, it expects some events may continue with changed conditions.
The district says, “To be clear, we are taking every step possible so that we can continue to provide high-quality education for all of our students and keep our schools open.”
