UO Knight Campus Officially Opens

The University of Oregon’s new science and research campus officially opens Wednesday. This comes four years after one of the largest donations ever to a public university.

Planning for the campus began in 2016 with a $500 million dollar donation from Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife Penny.
Now, the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is a reality. With it comes a mission of fast-tracking scientific discoveries and UO’s first endeavor into engineering.
Bob Guldberg is UO’s Vice President and the Executive Director of the Knight Campus.
“It’s addressing research in academia in a different way. It’s not just starting with a question and let’s see where this goes, it’s starting with a societal need and putting together the right team to address that societal need.”
He said the new campus has research areas including medical sensors and devices and neural engineering. It also includes a new joint doctoral program in bioengineering with Oregon State.
