Greater Albany Public School Board to Search for Permanent Superintendent
The Greater Albany Public School Board is preparing to search for a permanent superintendent, after firing Melissa Goff last month.
Interim Superintendent Rob Saxton was hired last month. At a GAPS board meeting held on Wednesday, he said he believes the search will be very competitive, with other superintendents planning to retire.
“There are some superintendents who have endured a great deal with COVID, and with some other things that have transpired over the past couple years who probably are set to retire, and there’ll be some attractive openings for superintendents across the state,” Saxton said.
Board member Michael Thomson again raised concerns over funds the board is spending on Saxton and the new Chief of Staff Rich Sipe.
A summary of public comments was also read out loud, which were both negative and positive, mentioning divisive actions and asking for the reason for Goff’s dismissal. No explanation has been given.
