Eugene’s 4J School Board unanimously approved a motion on Wednesday to increase compensation for transportation employees.

The district has struggled to retain and recruit licensed and qualified bus drivers. To continue to serve an already consolidated route, some transportation staff have had the added duty of driving buses.

The district and the Oregon School Employees Association have agreed to increase wage differentials by 25% and offer up to three $500 bonuses for transport employees.

The changes will only be effect for the 2021-2022 school year, and will expire on June 30, 2022. The school board approved the motion at an Oct. 13 special meeting.
