Camas Ridge Community School PTO officers emailed the Eugene 4J School Board Wednesday with concerns about the near-final school design and how it got there.
At its meeting last (Wednesday) night, board member Gordon Lafer said the two most glaring issues to him were its fewer and smaller windows than other new schools and the outer look of the building, noting, “The design for the building’s exterior which was not shared with anybody until the final meeting when it was presented, that to me looks like a warehouse, entirely corrugated metal. I feel like there’s a process issue here, that we need to be straight, we can’t kind of play games with people in a way that ends up with embittered relationships between ourselves and community members.”
Lafer said he hopes the issues can be resolved before plans are final. Wednesday afternoon, the 4J district emailed Camas Ridge families, saying their feedback is being considered for final refinements. The 4J website now says the project team is looking into larger classroom windows and giving the main entry a warmer exterior.
