Oregon Department Of Forestry Tightens Fire Restrictions

OR Department of Forestry

Wildfire season started early in Oregon and most of the state is experiencing drought conditions. That’s prompted the Department of Forestry to issue tighter restrictions on outdoor activities.

Open fires and cigarette smoking are just a few of the restrictions prohibited in wooded areas. The tightened measures have been implemented to curb the risk of human caused fires.

ODF’s Greg Wagenblast says the upcoming heat wave and low humidity will make the wildfire risk even greater.

“If they do have a fire start or they see smoke or a fire anyplace, to dial 911. Get fire resources, suppression resources coming as quickly as possible. All the agencies in our area work together closely very closely, and we’re going to get the fires put out as quickly and as safely as possible.”

Outdoor fires are restricted to camp grounds and designated areas. The use fireworks and chainsaws in forested areas is banned in some counties. Backyard burning has been prohibited until the end of fire season.
