The City of Eugene has purchased 100 acres of land north of Lane Community College. The city hopes the acquisition will help connect Eugene’s ridgeline system with Mt Buford Park and Springfield.
Neil Bjorkland is with Eugene’s parks department.
Bjorkland: “This was a parcel that has huge strategic value for the parks and open space systems in the whole Eugene / Springfield area”
Bjorkland says the land includes access to an I-5 underpass that will allow pedestrian crossing under the freeway. The city is calling it Coryell Ridge, after the original homesteading family on the land.
Eugene purchased the land from two parties with $850 thousand from its parks bond funds. It’s not yet open to the public.
