Wind & Rain Hit The Coast and Willamette Valley

Western Oregon will see stormy weather the rest of the week and through the weekend. Winds along the coast could reach up to 80 MPH.

Laurel McCoy is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland. She says there’s a high wind advisory on the coast through Friday.

McCoy: “The entire coast is going to be pretty darn windy.”

McCoy says between two and five inches of rain is expected to fall. She says the bulk of stormy conditions will hit the coastline, but the Willamette Valley should also expect wind and wet weather.

McCoy: “Winds will be lighter—we’re not going to have those strong damaging winds like they’re going to get on the coast. But we will have a pretty breezy day with winds gusting to 30 or 40 MPH.”

McCoy says there is an increased chance of flooding and water may accumulate on roadways. She says residents can prepare for intense weather by stocking up on batteries, food, blankets—anything that might be useful in a power outage.
