Eugene Aquires Another Parcel To Help Connect Ridgeline Trail

Rachael McDonald

Eugene is a little closer to its goal of completing the Ridgeline Trail. This week Lane County Commissioners voted to sell the city a small parcel of land along east 30th Avenue.

Acquisition of the 4 acre parcel will allow the city to create a safe pedestrian crossing of 30th avenue near Lane Community College. Phillip Richardson is a Landscape Architect with the city’s Park and Open Space division. He says the parcel is a piece of the puzzle for the ultimate vision to connect the Ridgeline Trail with Hendrick’s Park’s Ribbon Trail and eventually, Buford Park.

Richardson: “The trails we have in Eugene now are just very popular, including the Ridgeline. What will happen as we get lots more people in town we want to connect the pieces of property that we own. And just have a longer trail that makes important connections.”

Lane County agreed to sell the land to Eugene for a discounted price of $31,000. The funds come from a voter approved parks bond.
