Early December Forecast A Blessing For Snow Buffs

Brian Bull

December’s first weekend will see mostly cold, soggy weather across the Pacific Northwest, with snow in the higher elevations.  As KLCC’s Brian Bull reports, winter recreationists should enjoy the next few days.

Skiers and snowboarders line up at Mt. Bachelor’s ski lift.  The Cascades are expected to get a foot of snow this weekend.  Resort spokesman Drew Jackson says that builds on what’s already been a snowy winter, thanks to a La Nina weather pattern.

“Our opening weekend started off fantastic," Jackson tells KLCC.

"We had one of our deepest snowpacks, and strongest visitation weekends for an opening weekend in more than 10 years.

"We did decide to close the week of Thanksgiving just to help preserve the snowpack during the rain.  But then over Thanksgiving weekend, we were able to rebound a bit, visitation was a little bit off just because it’d been raining so much.

"But this particular week now, has been pretty strong.”

Jackson says conditions are just a tad below average due to recent rains.

Operators hope La Nina dumps more white stuff across the region in the weeks ahead.
