The Eugene activism group Beyond Toxics will host the fourth installment of their Environmental Justice webinar on Wednesday. The discussion will focus on the right to clean and healthy air.
The webinar will include a series of presentations, followed by a Q&A. Presenters in the webinar are the following:
Ana Molina, Statewide Environmental Justice Manager at Beyond Toxics
Tony DeFalco, Executive Director of VERDE NW
Mary Peveto, President of Neighbors for Clean Air
Moderator: Ben Duncan, Chief Officer of Equity and Diversity, Multnomah County
Attendees will learn about the intersections between clean air, environmental justice, and racial justice. They will also learn what other Oregonians are doing to improve air quality conditions.
Beyond Toxics Climate Justice Organizer Haley Case-Scott said the webinar will include tips and next steps for things residents can do locally. She referenced activist Tony DeFalco, and his work with Verde Northwest in Portland.
“Verde Northwest—they tried to increase their community capacity through social outreach and advocacy, and increasing their environmental wealth,” said Case-Scott. “So working with their community members to provide job training—especially concerning green buildings—making sure that they're using sustainable building materials and that their community members are benefiting.”
The Beyond Toxics webinar will be on August 5 from 12pm-1:30pm.
The next Beyond Toxics webinar will be The Right to a Healthy Workspace on September 16. This webinar series is also leading up to the Beyond Toxics’ Environmental Justice Pathways Summit, scheduled for April 2021 at the University of Oregon.
