New UO App Promotes Safe Sex

UO Health Department

The University of Oregon health department is hosting a launch party next week for a new app it has created promoting safe sex.

The app, called SexPositive, was created to appeal to the 18 to 23 year olds that attend the University. It lists the sexually transmitted infection risks if different body parts touch, as well as information about safer sex practices. Health Promotion Marketing Manager Keith Van Norman says the message is positive.

“We like SexPositive and we like the phrase sex positive, which has been around for a long time. We like it because that’s sort of our philosophy when it comes to talking about sex: that sex is on par with the choice to not have sex.”

The app is free in the iTunes store, and the Android version is on its way. The launch party is taking place at the Ford Alumni Center on October 15th. The event will culminate with a free lecture from the sex columnist Dan Savage.
