HIV Alliance To Host LGBTQ Health Fair

Even though progress has been made in the fight against AIDS, the disease still requires continued education. Saturday, the HIV Alliance is holding a health fair aimed at addressing the specific needs of the LGBTQ community. Lane County Health and Human Services Spokesman Jason Davis says even though advances have been made to fight the disease, it's still serious.

Davis: "There still is no cure and individuals can still and should still engage themselves in preventative practices to avoid the circumstance all-together."

Davis says they also want to focus on holistic approaches to preventing the spread of the disease. Paul Homan is the HIV Alliance's Prevention Manager. He says the focus is on educating the younger generation.

Homan: "They didn't live through this time in the 1980's when HIV was everywhere and these prevention methods were everywhere. They are kind of, almost, complacent about it."

The Health Fair includes simple health activities and a group exercise. It's from noon to 3 at the Atrium Building in downtown Eugene.
