Lane County Medical Records Lost

KPCC public radio

Lane County Health and Human Services says it's lost the files of over seven hundred patients.

The lost materials include medical histories, contact information, and Social Security numbers. Officials think no information was stolen or compromised. The agency believes the records may have been destroyed after being mis-filed as “non-medical.”

In a statement, spokesman Jason Davis says, “We don't anticipate there being a significant impact to patients ... much of the information contained within the files is backed up on our electronic health records system.”

The agency is reviewing its records storage practices and has promised patients reimbursement for up to six months of credit monitoring to be sure their private information hasn't been misused. They say everyone who's affected has been notified.
