The staff of caregivers and hospice nurses at a Eugene long term care facility continue to work in the midst of a COVID-19 outbreak. So far, 19 residents and 8 staff at Evergreen Memory Care have been infected with the novel coronavirus, two elder residents have died.
Spokesperson Amira Fahoum said the team at Evergreen is dedicated to protecting the vulnerable population. Most have Alzheimer’s or other dementias.
“I cannot give higher praise for the people who have grieved and worked and lost-- alongside our families,” she said. “As well as lost sleep and worked tirelessly to try to prevent any further exposure or spread within our community. We will continue to fight this pandemic one day at a time.”

Last week the facility announced two residents, both with pre-existing conditions, died of COVID-19 related causes. Fahoum said Evergreen Memory Care continues to work with the Oregon Health Authority and Lane County Public Health with testing and additional safety protocols.
