The Eugene City Council will decide Monday on a proposed ordinance revision to give property owners the ability to remove people for trespassing on the planting spaces between the curb and the sidewalk.
A small homeless tent camp on 5th street in downtown Eugene is located in one of these “right-of-way” areas. It is unclear whether a decision to revise the city ordinance will affect how police will enforce trespass laws when dealing with the homeless.

Eric Jackson has been unhoused in Eugene for a year and a half.
“They’re kidding themselves if they think $150 ticket, I have 30 of them--that turns in to a collection action of $284.41-- is not problematic for a homeless person when you’re trying to see how you can get people housed.”
KLCC will continue to follow the council’s decision on amending the city code.
