Homeless advocacy group to hold tent drive for unsheltered

The Way Home is asking for donations of tents to help provide shelter for people experiencing homelessness.

In response to colder and wetter weather, the Eugene group ‘The Way Home’ will hold a tent drive Nov. 21 to help shelter the homeless.

Coordinator Nick Farrow says while the group is able to provide things like tarps and candles, tents are more expensive. That’s why they’re looking to the community for support.

“Thinking about people who might have a tent that they don’t use anymore in their garage in their storage space, if they could make sure it has all the parts and works, we could collect and distribute them through our network and target people who need them most,” Farrow said.

Tents can be dropped off on Nov. 21 at 170 Monroe Street from 12-6 p.m. in Eugene. Other needed items are emergency blankets and candles. The Way Home is also accepting donations to help provide free Thanksgiving meals.

While the group is collecting donations to help the homeless, Farrow said they’re also focused on developing policies that lead to stable housing.
