The Lane County Master Gardener Association is holding its annual plant sale Saturday in downtown Eugene. But, organizers are worried the cancelation of the annual Earth Day event might impact turnout.
The Master Gardener Plant Sale and Earth Day traditionally share the same space in EWEB's downtown parking lot. This year, Earth Day organizers were forced to cancel their event because of rules for canopies in the fire department's updated "technical advisory." Those regulations are now under review. Katie Werner is an organizer for the Master Gardeners. She says this is their biggest fundraiser of the year.
Werner: "Really, how we got spared from this is we had already been allocated this space under Ferry Street Bridge, so were able to know that we could at least use the footprint under the bridge without using canopies."
Werner says because the Earth Day celebration won't be there on Saturday, the Plant Sale has permission to expand past Ferry Street Bridge. A separate organizer is having an Earth Day event in Alton Baker Park on April 25th.
The Master Gardener Plant Sale is from 11 am to 5 pm.
