Fees Waived At Some Northwest Recreation Sites This Week

The day after Thanksgiving is often filled with shopping, but bargain-seekers can also find a deal by heading into the great outdoors.

The $5 parking fee will be waived on Friday at the 25 state parks around Oregon that charge it.  The Oregon State Parks Departmentcalls it “Green Friday”and says it’s meant to encourage people to work off those turkey day calories with some exercise. Plus, it’s a way to explore parks at a different time of year than people might normally go.

The deals aren’t limited to state parks. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife says you can fish, crab or clam for free this Friday and Saturday. But bag limits, closures and size restrictions still apply. The agency says the offer is good to both Oregon residents and non-residents, so your out-of-town guests can join in the fun.

The outdoor discounts also apply to some parks in Washington. There, the Washingtron State Parks Department refers to the day after Thanksgiving as"Autumn Day."

As in Oregon, the fee waiver does not apply to overnight accomodations or facility rentals.
