Prescribed burn escapes in eastern Deschutes County

A prescribed burn has been declared a wildfire after it jumped its boundaries in eastern Deschutes County.

The Pine Mountain Fire had grown to more than 1,500 acres as of 4 p.m. Thursday.

It’s about 14 miles southeast of Bend and is not threatening any populated areas.

Smoke from the fire is visible from US Highway 20.

According to Central Oregon Fire Info, fire officials have called in aerial resources to attack the flames.
