Lane County Republicans Happy With Kitzhaber's Resignation

Lane County Republicans are pleased Oregon Democratic Governor John Kitzhaber is resigning. Challenger Dennis Richardson lost handily to Kitzhaber in the 2014 election. Now a special election in 2016 could mean a boost in support for a Republican candidate. Cindy Land is the Lane County Republican Chair. She says young voters are tired of corruption in government.

Land: "Government transparency is critical for personal liberty. We need honest, highly ethical people who are involved in government and we're looking forward in 2016 to bringing more of those people for Oregonians to vote on and bring into office."

Land doesn't know of any Republican candidates who are interested in running in 2016. The last time Oregonians voted in a Republican Governor was Victor Atiyeh in 1979.
