The City of Newport is considering a recommendation from the city's Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to designate all city parks as "smoke-free zones."
O'Boyle: "The Lincoln City Council adopted an ordinance in 2008 banning smoking from its city parks, now Newport is considering a similar one. It's unclear if electronic cigarettes will be included in the ban. Oregon did prohibit smoking in all state parks in 2014. Debate continues about a ban on tobacco products on all coastal beaches. Newport's City Council is seeking public comment on the issue and may direct staff to develop an ordinance based on feedback."
A public hearing on whether to make city parks "smoke free" is April 6th at 6:00 pm at the Newport City Hall. You can also submit comments electronically.
