A moderate Republican hopes his past work with Lane County -coupled with his strategic planning experience- will help his bid for State Representative, 11th District.
Mark Herbert of Springfield has his own management consulting company. He’s also a former member of the Lane County Planning Commission and Lane Metro Partnership.
Herbert says there’s too much gridlock in Salem. He says any time a political party holds a near-supermajority, there’s a problem.
“The minority party and the interests of folks that don’t agree with that, can be impacted," Herbert tells KLCC. "And that’s not just about the Democrats, that’s about any situation where you have that degree of dominance.

"And I don’t feel like our legislature is making decisions that are necessarily good for all of Oregon. It’s very Portland-based, and it’s very urban-based.”
Herbert wants to be seen more as a problem-solver than a politician. He’s married with two grown children, enjoys the outdoors, and plays golf – quote – “badly.”
His primary challenger is fellow Republican Josh Powell…though the Oregon GOP has asked Powell to step aside given anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic statements he’s made.
