Wyden Wants FBI To Investigate Kavanaugh

Oregon US Senator Ron Wyden says the sexual assault allegations against U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh deserve a “credible and serious” process of investigation.

In a visit to KLCC last weekend before new allegations against Kavanaugh surfaced, the Democratic senator said an investigation should involve the FBI.

On Monday, Wyden reiterated that call in a tweet: "Given the serious and credible assault allegations against him, the FBI MUST reopen Kavanaugh’s background investigation. Republicans’ plan to rush his nomination for a LIFETIME seat before a simple investigation has been conducted is a farce," Wyden tweeted.

Wyden also takes issue with senate majority leader Mitch McConnell’s proclamation that votes are already secured, even before the senate judiciary committee has had a chance to hear from Kavanaugh’s accuser:

“It’s so clear that many in the Republican leadership have essentially made up their mind who’s interested in witnesses, who’s interested in the facts, we’re just gonna jam this through,” said Wyden.

Wyden has opposed the nomination of Kavanaugh for months, citing his positions on abortion rights and campaign finance. Both Wyden and Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley said last week they would vote against Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
