City Club of Eugene: Oregon Governor Kate Brown

Karen RIchards

From the City Club of Eugene:

Governor Kate Brown addresses a special meeting of the City Club of Eugene prior to the start of the Short Session of the Legislature.  We'll hear the governor’s priorities for the legislature and for Oregon. What topics will gain the governor’s priority list?  How does she plan to address issues like climate change, wildfire management and prevention?  Will there be infrastructure proposals or transportation initiatives?

Lane County made Harris Hall available to City Club for this important special meeting.  As usual, members of City Club were able to ask Governor Brown about her plans and priorities.

Kate Brown, Oregon’s 38th Governor, has over 25 years of experience in government. From 2009 to 2015, Governor Brown served as Oregon’s Secretary of State, where she was a leader in increasing government transparency and accountability. She also created the Office of Small Business Assistance, to help cut through red tape and allow businesses to grow and expand.

As Governor, she has signed legislation to improve the state’s education system, to add jobs by passing Oregon’s largest transportation package, to contain costs by improving government efficiency and accountability, and to ensure that 95 percent of adults and all children have access to health care.

Governor Brown grew up in Minnesota and earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder. She came to Oregon to attend Lewis and Clark’s Northwestern School of Law, where she received her law degree and Certificate in Environmental Law.
