Benton County Sees First COVID-19 Death

The Benton County Health Department announced the county’s first COVID-19 related death on Monday. The patient was a female in her late 80s who was receiving treatment at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center at the time of death. The patient had underlying medical conditions.

To date, Benton County has 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with two patients being treated in area hospitals.

Also on Monday, Lane County Public Health announced four additional positive test results for COVID-19.  This makes a total of 16 positive tests in Lane County.  The new cases range in age from a woman in her 30s to a woman in her 80s. Three of the four new cases are within the Eugene- Springfield area.

According to the latest update from the Oregon Health Authority, Oregon has seen 606 positive COVID-19 results out of the  12,833 people who have been tested. 16 people have died.

Officials urge the public to follow guidance from Gov. Kate Brown’s recent executive order to “Stay Home, Save Lives” by reducing opportunities for community transmission of the disease. Avoiding social contacts and practicing excellent personal hygiene are the best ways to slow the spread of COVID-19.
